• How can I open more than one form on my screen at a time?
Create more View icons. Use one for each form that you want open. More than one View icon can display the same Template. They can also display separate Template designs, such as lists, summaries, etc.
• I have created a Template, but my form is blank.
If you have used the dotted-outline Data rectangles, they will not be displayed on your form in the View window. If you have not also created labels for your fields, then nothing will be visible on your form. You can make labels in your Template to indicate where and what your entry fields are by using Label rectangles.
• How can I have data appear on my form without allowing the
user to select that field and potentially change it?
If the Data rectangle has only an Abacus icon in it, it will not be selectable.
With a calculated default, where you have an Abacus and Field icon in the same Rectangle, the menu command Selectable allows you to specify that any Rectangle will not be selectable. A checkmark is visible when a Rectangle selected in the Template will be selectable on the form.
Form permissions allow you to specify, on a form by form, user by user basis, which forms allow data modification in Custom Mode.
• In the View window, when I click on the link for my
subform, the Index becomes deselected.
The links must be of the same type (number, text, etc.). If they are not, Helix rejects the other selection.
• In the View window, why does my subform link appear in
the space above the list?
The selected link is a field, but the list (as determined by the icon switch above the list) is set for Abacus icons, or the other way around. This feature keeps the current choice visible, while allowing you to look at the “other” icon list.
• I chose an Abacus query on my subform and can’t de-select
